I love sharing recipes – but sometimes, it’s the basic kitchen skills we need the most help with. That’s why I’m launching a new how-to series that’s all about the simple things that often go unexplained in regular recipes – yet are the foundation of cooking and baking. Once you get the hang of them, mastering recipes, and even improvising, becomes so much easier.

I still remember how intimidated I felt by certain techniques I hadn’t learned from my parents – even though they turned out to be quite easy, or at least doable, once I gave them a try. If you’re in that same spot, I hope this series helps you – from one homecook to another.
But even if you already know how to do these things, maybe you’ll pick up a few new ideas – and if your method works better than mine, I’d love to hear it! I’m no pro, and I’m always excited to learn something new that makes cooking and baking more fun and more successful.

That’s also something I’d love you to keep in mind as you follow along: I’m just a homecook who’s learned from family, practice, and plenty trial and error. These how-to posts aren’t about the “perfect” or “right” way to do things – they’re about sharing what works in a real home kitchen.
That’s the core of this series: sharing accessible tips and techniques that actually work for me – and might just work for you, too. They won’t require fancy equipment (and if they ever do, I’ll tell you a good reason why), and they won’t be overly complicated or full of professional jargon. Just simple, practical skills and basic recipes that make life in the kitchen easier and more enjoyable – and help you create better meals.

The first post will go live this weekend – and from then on, you can expect a new how-to every second Saturday.
I hope you’ll learn something new, feel more confident in the kitchen, and have a lot of fun along the way!
Love,
Lea
